The development plan of the music industry of Cameroon is the document presented by the advisory committee of the Cameroonian Council of Music (CCM) on 24 June 2024 at the French Institute of Cameroon antenna Yaoundé. This in the framework of the project Les Chantiers Musicales du Cameroun, a programme of meetings focused on the structuring of the music industry of Cameroon since January 2024 under the leadership of the Cameroonian Council of Music with the support of French cooperation.
This background document, which will provide both an overview of the situation of music in Cameroon, will propose solutions approaches and a strategic action plan to be deployed in order to build a balanced and economically virtuous music industry. « The basis for the introduction of the development scheme of the music industry in Cameroon was the work of the musical works that were organized in Douala with sixty-five nationals; producers, broadcasters and promoters of music, coming from all corners of Cameroon. This is the basis of this study. This meeting had made it possible to determine the problems, and it was from these problems that we developed the following. The second thing was the mapping of this industry. We have a database of five thousand people: artists, producers and musicians who are already listed. This mapping allows us to identify the areas of music in Cameroon, and which produces where; which promotes where; who communicates and who broadcasts music where. The third fundamental was the demonstration of the level of structuring of this industry and its impact either at state or donor level. These three poles provided the basis for the introduction of the Cameroonian music industry scheme »Charles Elame, chairman of the advisory committee of the Cameroonian Music Council, said.
The project, the Music Buildings of Cameroon, which has come to an end, was carried out in 6 months (January-June 2024), in 3 major stages supported by the elaboration of this framework document which will make a cold diagnosis of the situation and the strategic tracks and axes of development of the music industry. It should be noted that the first phase took place from 08 to 10 February 2024 in Douala, where it was intended to take stock of the musical industry. The second phase took place from 18 to 21 March in Yaoundé, on the sidelines of the YAMEX (Yaoundé Music Expo). This phase consisted of optimizing the capabilities of some 30 professionals selected from Phase 1.
